Music in Capoeira Angola is important, it sets rhythm and energy for the players in the Roda. The bateria consists of eight instruments. The people in the bateria and sitting in the circle, forming the Roda, are singing. The Berimbau, with its origin in Africa, is the lead instrument of the bateria. In the bateria we use three berimbaus of different pitches: theĀ gunga with a low pitch, the medio, and the high pitched viola. Next to the berimbaus we use other percussion instruments: the atabaque, two pandeiros, the agogo, and the reco-reco.
Almost every class, we spend a part on music. We practice the instruments and singing, as well as the meaning of the songs (ladainhas and corridos) and the traditions of the music in capoeira.
